Which devices can use Link Density (LD) mode?
Link Density (LD) mode can be used on EM 6000, EM 6000 Dante, SK 6000, SKM 6000 and SK 6212.
Digital 9000 receivers and transmitters and the EK 6042 receiver are not supported.
What are the system requirements to activate Link Density (LD) mode?
Both receiver and transmitter must have at least the following firmware versions:
• EM 6000: 3.0.4
• SK 6000 / SKM 6000: 1.1.51
• SK 6212: 1.3.23
The latest firmware can be found at www.sennheiser.com/download with the keyword “Digital 6000”. Wireless System Manager (WSM) software is required for the update and can be downloaded free of charge at www.sennheiser.com/wsm.
The new firmware versions are supported by all systems on the market.
Is the firmware update for Link Density (LD) mode subject to charge?
No, this update is available to all users free of charge.
How to change the transmission mode in the EM 6000?
Activate the system menu and scroll to "Transmission Mode”. The “Transmission Mode” menu item enables the receiver to switch between LD (Link Density) and LR (Long Range) mode.
As both channels of a unit always operate in the same mode, both channels are switched simultaneously.
The selection of LD or LR mode can also be made via WSM in the EM 6000's instrument settings. The RF Mode property selects between LR or LD mode.
After switching modes, the receiver will restart.
How to change the transmission mode in the Digital 6000 transmitters (SK 6000, SK 6212, SKM 6000)?
Once the desired mode (LD or LR) has been activated in the EM 6000, the receiver will prompt to perform an infrared synchronization of transmitters. The LD / LR mode cannot be updated directly via the transmitter menus, a synchronization must be performed.
All SK 6212 as well as SK 6000 and SKM 6000 from serial number 1469xxxxxx can be switched over via Sync. SK 6000 / SKM 6000 with serial numbers below 1469xxxxxx require a firmware update for each transmission mode change, which is automatically started during Sync.
Why are different audio codecs used?
To operate twice as many channels in the same spectrum, the audio transmission data rate must be reduced. Link Density (LD) mode uses the Sennheiser Audio Performance Codec (SePAC), which limits the upper frequency range at 14 kHz.
LR mode uses the Sennheiser Digital Audio Codec (SeDAC) for the highest audio demands and requirements.
Why do the two modes have different RF power?
To operate twice as many channels in the same spectrum, RF power must be adjusted. Link Density (LD) mode has been optimized to deliver excellent results on typical stage sizes, where maximum RF performance is not required. For maximum RF performance, LR mode is the ideal choice.
Can I use LR mode in one channel of an EM 6000 dual receiver and the LD mode in the other channel?
No, both channels of a device always work in the same mode. Both channels are switched simultaneously.
Can the two transmission modes be used in parallel in the same production?
Yes, this is possible on different receivers.
Does WSM software support LD mode?
Yes, as of version 4.4.6.
Do I have to use special antennas and antenna splitters for LD mode?
No, all antennas and antenna splitters for Digital 6000 can also be used with both LR and LD modes.
Does the Auto Setup of the EM 6000 support LD mode?
Not completely. Auto Setup will run in LD mode, but it utilizes the standard LR mode frequency banks, with 400 kHz equidistant spacing.
Auto Setup is intended for smaller and simpler applications where the LD mode is not required. For large and complex configurations, we recommend our WSM software.
Does the battery life of the transmitter change in LD mode?
No, the selected transmission mode has no significant influence on battery life.
Can the EM 9046 or EK 6042 be retrofitted with LD mode?
No, retrofitting is not possible.
